I be scribbling down a magical teleportation rune in my treasury on my ship! This rune will send someone who steps on it to a random faraway location in the water away from me and me ship! There be a 30% chance of someone stepping on it as they enter the room, and a 14+ magic check to notice it! Yarr harr!

Your ship, since it's not busy doing anything, notices some strange stuff. A couple of seagulls that seems to be keeping an eye on your ship from a long distance, and an increased number of rats running around the docks. Do you/does it do anything about this?
Avatar
Davey Bones 15-Nov-21 11:12 PM
Could The Immortal Tyrant use its ghost ship powers to try to create a bit of a Siren Call for the rats (including those of the sea) and proceed to eat them?

Avatar
Davey Bones 15-Nov-21 11:19 PM
Damn rats!
At least I got them out of my hair (figuratively speaking). I'd ask The Immortal Tyrant to keep an eye out just in case though. And to keep a bit of a distance from the harbour so no rat or anything could try to sneak on board. Furthermore, any rats or anything like it is to be killed on sight... Or eaten by the floor, if the Tyrant is so inclined.

Huh...
Poison...
I have an idea...
To hell with Rosendo, I have new orders for Scurvy.
I wish for him to deliver a letter for me (once I've got somebody who can fucking write). He is going to deliver an invite to my meeting tomorrow.
This invite is going to the Envoy of the Gods.
I believe we may have... Mutual interests.
Actually, scratch that, have him be invited for the morning come after that meeting.
This is where I make it or break it...
Avatar
Cindurion 16-Nov-21 09:54 AM
After passing an Int-test, you know that the Envoy would vehemently detest you personally and undeads as well Just thought I would point that out
So Scurvy is waiting at your ship until your crew finds someone that can write then? And what does the letter say?

Avatar
Davey Bones 16-Nov-21 12:06 PM
I know. I'm counting on it.
The letter would basically detail the proposition of having a meeting, where we shall discuss a future of mutual interest. Specifically, a world where the Magus Organization does not exist. More than this I dare not say in a letter, but if they have any doubts about my intents, they may wish to see the news come tomorrow...

Right, so we'll have a little mini-scene as I'm curious how you will proceed from here: As you go below deck to start scribing on your magical trap, you send out your crew into the docks to kidnap random victims. After some time, they return with 12 people. 6 dock workers (4 male, 2 female), one tourist couple, one timid-looking woman, one business-woman, one salesman and one scared looking man with an odd outfit. After some moments of confusion, the business woman takes tone and demands you explain yourself. In the background you can hear the woman from the tourist couple asking “What’s going on, Shouta? I’m so scared…” And the man responds “Don’t worry, Yokota, I’ll think of something.”

Davey Bones 16-Nov-21 01:22 PM
Oh my god.
Are you kidding me?
Avatar
Cindurion 16-Nov-21 01:22 PM
Out of all of them, the Business-woman and the man in an odd outfit looks to be the most literate at a glance
(You don't necessarily need to go into extreme detail on how you proceed with this scene, but you mentioned something about having one of them write the letter so I suppose here's your chance to do so! Though if you do feel like it you can turn it into a mini-scene)
Avatar
Davey Bones 16-Nov-21 01:27 PM
Hmm...
Are any of them mages, as far as I can tell?
Avatar
Cindurion 16-Nov-21 01:27 PM
None of them are, no.
Avatar
Davey Bones 16-Nov-21 01:27 PM
Good.
Davey will have them all lined up at the top deck, The Immortal Tyrant currently out and away from the harbour, and away from prying eyes. He will pace back and forth in front of their line, looking over each of them closely. Then he looks over to the business woman and the man in the odd outfit, and he'll say, "Ye two. Step forward, if ye wouldn't mind." Assuming they'd both do so, he'd continue to say, "What be your qualifications? I be in need of someone of a certain skill, and dependent on whether ye possess such a skill I may or may not let ye live."
Avatar
Cindurion 16-Nov-21 01:37 PM
Both of them look noticably uncomfortable, but the businesswoman far less so. She steps forward first, and the man slowly walks forward afterwards. "I am the Managing Director of Radiant Microsystems. If this is someone's idea of a sick joke, I should let you know that I am not amused, and that we will not stand for this." "U.. Umm... I'm an... Archaeologist of sorts... Though I'm not sure that most of my colleagues would agree..." (You can visibly see him mentally berating himself through his expressions for mentioning that last part) (edited)
Avatar
Davey Bones 16-Nov-21 01:44 PM
Davey considers the two people in front of him, his gaze cold and indifferent. The man would be easier to control, easier to intimidate, bend to his will. It was clear to him that he was the weaker of the two. But then, on the other hand, he couldn't stand cowards. And the woman, while more likely to oppose or turn on him somehow, would certainly make this whole endeavour more interesting. He looked at her, and says, "What be ye name?"
Avatar
Cindurion 16-Nov-21 01:51 PM
The man meekly takes a step back towards the crowd as you start speaking to the woman. "Why don't you start with yours and we'll see if you're worth my time." *She seems to look around for someone, perhaps expecting a "Man behind the curtain" moment. You notice that the man seems to realize something and goes up to her and gently tugs her shirt to try and get her attention, but she dismisses his hand.
Avatar
Davey Bones 16-Nov-21 02:00 PM
If Davey still possessed a lower jaw, or the ability to make any other expression, he would be grinning. Instead, he settles for a whole body laugh that seemed to echo in the wind. "Ye got a lot of backbone to speak to your abductor in such a way, I'll give ye that! Truth be told, it be rather refreshing change of pace!" After his booming ethereal laughter starts to fade, he tips his hat in greeting, and says, "I be the dreaded Pirate King Davey 'Lichbeard' Bones, captain of The Immortal Tyrant, and the last true pirate of the modern world. Welcome aboard me ship!"
Avatar
Cindurion 16-Nov-21 02:16 PM
At your booming laugh, Yokota screams, but is calmed by her boyfriend. "You gotta be shitting me, cut the crap!", the boyfriend speaks up. At first the businesswoman looks unimpressed by this display, but the man besides her speaks up "So it's true, then... You are the man who sunk Atlantis! I have dedicated my life's work to uncovering it, at the ridicule of my colleagues. Everyone! These aren't some suits or special effects, this a real Monster. Please, do as he says", he asks pleadingly to the businesswoman. She looks you over one more time with a skeptical look, and sighs. "I am Lillian Whitford of Radiant Microsystems, a chip manufacturer. Why have you taken us? You didn't seem to have any common criteria for selecting us."
Avatar
Davey Bones 16-Nov-21 02:24 PM
Despite lacking any way to express facial features, Davey somehow looks to be practically beaming as he speaks. "There be a myriad of reasons for that, lass. You however, your function will differ from the others." Looking over to Cooper, he makes a small gesture with his head towards Lillian, and says, "Cooper, take Miss Whitford to the captain's quarters. Once I'm done here, she and I will be discussing her future role here, her working conditions, and more importantly, her compensation." As he says this, Davey pulls out a red tinted gold coin, and flicks it towards her, his perpetual half-grin somehow turning more devious.

As they depart, Davey says in a low, gleeful voice, "I assure ye, miss Whitford, ye stay here will be nothing but profitable." Chuckling low to himself, he moves on to the next person. He briefly stops to look at the strangely dressed man, giving the man a curious look. He had initially planned to have Griffin shoot the man to make an example of him to the others, now that he had already decided on his new scribe. But the man seemed to possess knowledge of not only him, but of Atlantis as well. This, fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your point of view) spared this man from that fate. Eventually, wanting to move on to the rest of the crew sooner, rather than later, says to him, "Ye and I will also be speaking later. If ye know me, then ye know the consequence for those who cross me." His eyes narrow, not in suspicion, but in delight, as he continues to say, "Consider this an once in a lifetime opportunity for your work." (edited)

At your implied threat, you can see any semblance of resolve shatter in his eyes as he accepts the current situation. "Now, I can't help but feel that the rest of us are, shall we say, obsolete in this situation, but I can assure you, that couldn't be further from the truth." The sales-person speaks up, his voice occasionally cracking from the pressure of current situation. "Now, I'm not sure about the others, but I can provide you... Certain services... should you require them. I have an extensive network of people I can get in touch with for various things, I'm sure we can come to some sort of agreement here. No need to, uh, 'walk the plank', if you catch my drift?" He nervously laughs as he says this.
Avatar
Davey Bones 16-Nov-21 02:59 PM
Davey looks at this person, and somehow manages to simulate a implied smile, as he says, "Ye and the others have no need to worry. Ye will all be given a chance to prove ye merits before this is all done." Davey gives another inhuman laugh, as he says, "The gravedigger may have been right when he called me a monster, but I am very much a reasonable monster." Then, focusing back on the merchant, he says, "Ye claim ye may provide me services, and a network of contacts. Yet ye have yet to disclose what sorts of services ye or ye contacts may provide, nor have ye properly introduced yourself." (edited)

a sweatbead runs down the man's forehead as you speak, and he smiles a hollow smile "Ah, yes, the name is Isaac Gibson, though some people call me "The Jackal". Not saying that you might have heard of me or anything, as I can tell that you are in the big leagues, whereas I'm more of a minor league player. That isn't to say that my particular set of skills wouldn't be useful to you! In fact, having someone down-to-earth could be a good thing depending on the situation! So, like I said, I have a pretty extensive..." He is interrupted by Shouta. "That's enough! we're not playing along with your games! There's like 10 of us and 4 of you! Come on, let's beat em up and escape!" The salesman quietly tries to shush him down, saying: "Hey, kid, I'm trying to get us all of this boat in one piece, if you could just..." "Get 'em!" Shouta shouts as he bodies one of the skeletons. The sailors also get ready to fight while the shy woman holds her head and crouches down silently "Yokota, jump off the ship and swim ashore! I'll be right behind you!" "But Shouta..." "GO!" And the woman starts running to the edge of the ship, but you should have no problem stopping her if you wanted. Your crew could be overwhelmed though.

(The skeletons are to shoot or stab anyone who is about to get to them, not really caring too much for fatalities at that point. That said, I would command The Immortal Tyrant to shift the portions of the deck that the resisting sailors are standing on into teethed mouths. She is to bite down on their feet and legs, but avoid killing those who she can reasonably manage to hold).

Davey glares at the people before him, his glare dark and angry. His eyes hover over each and every one of them, stopping only briefly to focus on the man who had started this whole thing, before his eyes settle on the sailors screaming in pain. Without taking his eyes off of them, he says, "Jameson, I want you to go below deck, take out something from your good stash, and give each of these brave sailors something to drink. If we have any medical equipment amongst our plunder, use it to treat anyone who may yet live. However," He turns his eyes to the rest of the people on the ship. "If anyone of them gives you trouble, feel free to kill them. Furthermore, if anyone else of our guests gives me trouble again, kill them anyway." Davey turns to look at Shouta in his paralyzed state, and approaches him, looking him in the eye the entire way as he goes. "Shouta, was it?" He asks, not really caring to wait for an answer. "I have killed a great many men for far less than that stunt you just pulled, Shouta," He says, as soon as they are face to face. "Ye care to tell me why ye felt compelled to do that, before I decide whether or not to gut ye where ye stand?"

Davey Bones 16-Nov-21 03:58 PM
Davey's eyes burns holes into Shouta, cold and cruel. He then moves that uncaring gaze over to Yokota, thoughtful for a moment. Then, his eyes turns back to Shouta, his decision made. Really, it had been obvious to Davey what he would have to do the moment he had set eyes on those two. He raised his boney hand up above Shouta, hand open wide, and then... He slaps Shouta playfully on the back, laughing even more heartily than before, his eyes filling up with spectral drops that may have been tears, clutching his belly, and just like that, the supernatural fear that had gripped the humans fades altogether. "What absolute nonsense are ye spouting, boy?!" Davey manages to say between fits of joyous laughter. "Love has been the driving force that has raised and ruined empires as easily as castles of sand! It is the force that grips the least of men and women and raises them to the heights of titans! It is the most restorative and destructive and inevitable force on this earth rivalled only by death! Ye were just willing to give ye life to save the one ye loves, and ye thinks that ye be worth nothing at all?!" Davey's laughter continues to echo out in sincere joy. "Ye may be a complete and utter fool Shouta, but ye is far from worthless!" (edited)

Davey snorts, and rolls his eyes. "Aye, I think ye be right about that lass. Hmm..." He looks at Shouta for a moment, a bit more serious this time. "Ye have caused a bit of a stir, lad. We will speak more later, but for now, ye should apologize to the poor sailors who nearly died for your recklessness. They nearly lost their lives in a futile attempt to save your love, and deserve an apology for ye're lousy excuse for a escape. After that, we shall speak later, and I will prove ye're worth to ye by finding a use for ye later. However," Davey draws his blade, and before anyone can react, points it at Shouta's throat. "Pull another stunt like that again, and I will kill ye and feed ye to me ship. Do I make myself clear?" (edited)
Avatar
Cindurion 16-Nov-21 04:24 PM
Shouta looks at the blade, gulps, nods and turns to the sailors. He goes down on his knees and puts his forehead onto the floorboards. "I'm really sorry for getting you all involved in this! Please forgive me!!!" The second female sailor speaks up through gritted teeth and says: "Don't worry about it, kid. We made our decisions ourselves, your speech merely moved our hearts into action." She then turns to look at you. "Captain Davey Bones, was it? On behalf of my men, I ask that you give any punishment meant for us for standing up to you to me instead. I may not be their captain or anything, but I still outrank them and I should've stopped them, but ultimately did not."

Still through gritted teeth "The name is Nellie Porter, sir. I serve aboard the F.V. Hopewell along with my crewmates here." The other woman looks at her with pleading, teary eyes, but doesn't say anything. The other trapped sailors look down onto the floor with disappointed looks, and clenched fists.

Davey Bones 16-Nov-21 04:57 PM
Davey tips his hat in respect to the woman, and says, "Ye be a credit to ye crew, Porter. Despite the circumstances, ye have kept yer head relatively clear, and ye have shown as much courage and resolve as the hardiest of seasoned sailors. There be nothing to forgive." Davey stomps his foot into the deck twice, commanding the Tyrant to release the sailors. As he does so, he kneels down next to them, and adds, "That being said, if ye could do me a courtesy and hold ye valour while I keep ye all from bleeding out on me deck, that would be appreciated." As he speaks, he is going to be using his pirate magic to stem the crew's bleeding while Shirley patches and boozes them up.

Then, glancing at the Skeleton in question, he adds groaning, "Better ye do than he." Then, standing up, he turns to face the last passenger on his ship; The girl. He approached her slowly, trying to move as clearly and non-threatingly as he could manage, and once he was at a relatively short distance between the two, he looks down at her and softly says, "Hello there, lass. Scurvy flies over instantly at your command and takes a look at the journal. "Kraa! Kraa! Reading! Did you know that Davey is a real bad shot? Couldn't hit the broadside of a barn if he wanted to! Kraa!" The girl clearly does her best to hold back a laugh-like reaction, her lips twitching as she wasn't expecting the bird to make such a comment "Kraa, kraa! Speak, she cannot! Born with a sickness, she was! Kraa!" (edited)

Davey makes a noise that is something between a groan and a growl at the parrot, though without any real heart. Scurvy had become all too essential in recent years to maintain any real fervour. "I see," Davey says, trying to keep as much of the exasperation out of his voice as possible. "Then tell me this, lass. Do ye have a name?"

She quickly scribbles something in the journal and shows it to Scurvy "Kraa! Vera Neumayer! Kraa!" At hearing this, the salesperson who was interrupted earlier once again pipes up. "Say, uh, I couldn't help but notice a certain amount of disdain for that... Lovely pet of yours, and let's face it, so would I if I would be forced to have a pet with a brain the size of a literal peanut having to do my reading for me. Now, I actually have some skill in sign language due to my deaf sister who lives downtown. If... If you would prefer, perhaps I could be of some minute assistance in this matter? I am also quite capable of reading if you don't want us to be doing some 'secret hand gestures' or anything." He pauses for a brief moment before finishing with "Or perhaps I just misread the situation completely and you are fine with the bird doing your reading for you. I don't judge, I'm just offering to help."

Davey turns to look at the man. "Yer offer has been noted, Mr. Gibson." Davey says, and then turns back to the girl. "And duly ignored." Looking at her, he says, "Well, Ms. Neumayer, it be a pleasure to meet ye." As he says this, Davey extends his hand in the offer of a handshake.

Follow the rules, do as I say, and I will do me best to keep ye safe and sound. Do anything but that, and ye will be removed from this vessel faster than Scurvy can say 'SQUAWK WAIT-!'" As Davey says this last part, his hand suddenly goes up, grabs Scurvy, and flings the undead bird overboard. As he does so, he goes and leans over the side to yell, "THE NEXT TIME YE BADMOUTH ME IN FRONT OF ME GUESTS I WILL SKIN WHATEVER IS LEFT OF YE WASTED HIDE, SCURVY! Due to exceptional roleplaying you have been awarded 1 character creation point! Make sure to note it down yourself! Keep it up! But only if you feel like it. Remember that mini-scenes are always optional! Day 1 Night time After having Vera write the letter, you send off Scurvy towards the Envoy of the Gods in the church, carrying the letter. Then you resume working on your magical trap. After finishing up your trap (I decided it would be done in a single phase after all, so now anyone who carelessly walks towards your treasure will be teleported out into the sea, no need to spend additional phases on it.), you decide to check in on Scurvy. You remembered that you had a device from your years of pillaging that you could use to check in on someone familiar to you, and you decide to use it on Scurvy to see how the Envoy reacts. Activating the device, you can see Scurvy sitting on the railing next to the stairs leading up to the church, screeching: “Kraa, kraaa! Envoy of the Gods, Kraa!” All while stretching out his foot carrying the letter. Some of the priests are running into the church with worried looks on their faces, looking back at Scurvy as they make their way inside. A few moments pass and suddenly the doors slam open, startling Scurvy and any passers-by. Coming out of the doors, you can make out what seems to be the Envoy of the Gods walking rapidly with a steady pace towards Scurvy, with a focused expression. “Kraa? Envoy of the Gods?” Scurvy says towards the priest. But instead of a reply, the Envoy makes some hand gestures and seems to conjure some sort of Holy attack at Scurvy, but narrowly miss. “Kraa! KRAA! Work together! Kraa!” Scurvy screeches in a panicked tone. He drops the note and starts taking off. (edited)
Scurvy panickedly flies away from the church, but suddenly, a Holy force strikes him from behind, instantly ‘killing’ him, his corpse dropping in front of the steps of the church. You are still able to see Scurvy thanks to the device, and you can see how the Envoy picks up the note and reads it while walking slowly towards Scurvy’s corpse. Scurvy’s soul begins being pulled towards the phylactery as the Envoy stops in front of Scurvy’s corpse and tosses the note away, while saying: “Hmph. Such impudence.” He then proceeds to cast a ritual on Scurvy’s corpse, redirecting his soul into the afterlife, while consecrating the undead body, effectively permanently killing Scurvy. Upon doing so, your device ceases to function and fizzles out due to some sort of malfunction. How do you react, and what do you do for your night-time phase?

As Davey sees this through the lens of his machine, he stands unnervingly still for a long time, even after the final transmission. Then, slowly, he lets out a low, dark chuckle. Scurvy had been as unpleasant as its namesake, and Davey had truly, truly hated the bird. But hate and love were not mutually exclusive, and the Pirate King knew this well. He would remember this moment when he won the war. Still, now was not the time to show weakness, or even rage or joy. Now was the time to lay down plans. His eyes turned over to some of his guests, and finally his eyes set on the captain's quarters. He decided it was time to have a talk with Ms. Lillian Whitford. Moving across the deck, he reached the entrance to his quarters and entered. Stepping inside, he looks at Cooper, and merely says, "Mr. Cooper, ye may add Scurvy's name to the list below. Me and Ms. Whitford will be speaking in the meantime. Make sure our guests are well taken care of in my absence."

Cooper responds with a nodding "Yaarr." and proceeds to head out onto the deck while lighting another cigarette. Lillian turns to face you with a passive, almost dismissive look, letting you take the first tone.

Davey Bones 19-Nov-21 04:17 PM
Davey gave a soft chuckle as he walked across the room to sit in his captain's chair, saying as he did, "As ye may have surmised during the last few hours, the world be a bit different from what ye recently believed it to be, aye?" He makes a bit of a waving motion with his right hand, letting small puffs of ethereal fire emit from his hand to make a point, as he sat down. "Tell me, what do ye make of it?"
Avatar
Cindurion 19-Nov-21 04:37 PM
Lillian leans back against the wall and lets out a sigh "If you're referring to the supposed existence of a long dead skeleton pirate, then yes, quite a bit different." She again gives you a skeptical look. "To tell you the truth, I'm still unconvinced that this isn't some elaborate prank that will end up on the internet when all is said and done, but for now I will play along." She locks eyes with you. "You mentioned a business proposal? What exactly can an electronics chip manufacturer help an skeleton pirate with?"

Davey Bones 19-Nov-21 04:44 PM
Davey shakes his head, chuckling once more as he does so. "Nay, Ms. Whitford, ye miss me meaning. I be referring to the existence of magic as a concept, not just me. There be many magical forces out there, me being among some of the foremost of them. A whole world of magicians who, so far, have been staying under the radar." Davey chuckles a bit more. "Well, most magicians stay under the radar, at any rate. I be looking to change that. I be seeking to lift the veil, and to dispatch of those who put it there in the first place. And I believe there to be a popular market for magic, once it reaches the larger masses. A very profitable market." Davey takes a bottle of whiskey from out of his desk, sets two glasses down, pours them both, and says, "Would ye like a drink?" (Ooc: If she says yes, I will pull out another glass. These two are for me.)

Cindurion 19-Nov-21 06:03 PM
You can tell that her wheels start turning at hearing this information. She clearly starts making plans right away with this information in mind. She glances over at the bottle, before nodding. "Sure." Upon being handed the glass she would inspect the liquid, give it a quick swirl, before catching a quick whiff and then setting it aside for now. "When you say magic, I take it you mean a wide variety of real magic, not the parlour trick-kind? I can see that being useful indeed, but there's something about this that doesn't strike me as quite right. For one, you took a bunch of random people hostage on the docks with no real regard to the way you did so. That strikes me as something you would do only if you didn't particularly care about the people you take, or perhaps you were fishing for some specific types of people. I'm operating under the idea that you were looking for someone influential, but if what the archeologist out there said is true, then I don't imagine you're planning on 'going clean' and starting up a business. After all, where's the 'fun' in cold, hard business?" She pauses briefly to try and gauge your reaction.

Davey Bones 19-Nov-21 06:13 PM
His grin somehow turns even more menacing, as he says, "Well, to tell ye the truth, I had planned on taking me ship, fly over to one of the men responsible for this veil I told ye about, and throw ye all overboard as a message." Davey shrugs. "I changed me mind when I saw what me crew brought back, and I realized that there may be some use for some of ye." He downs the contents of one of his drinks. "The truth is, there be a war in this city. A war fought by a handful of people, all for one price: The power to make a wish come true." Davey downs another drink. "I be planning on using this wish to accomplish what I just told ye about. The people I told ye about, the ones that keep that veil up? They be called the Magus Organization. With them out of the picture, the market will be ripe for the picking, and there will be plenty of off-balance mages to raid and slay. That said, I be needing some way to make use of the bounty I be planning on amassing." Davey refills his drinks as he looks at her, and says, "I take it ye be seeing where I be going with this, aye?" (edited)

Cindurion 19-Nov-21 08:26 PM
At hearing his original plan, Lillian freezes and pales a bit, but quickly snaps back to normal, and as Davey downs his drink, Lillian takes a quick sip herself. "I see, so I take it you need a peddler to sell these 'acquisitions' to, then? What kind of 'product' can we expect? Like I said, I am the General Manager of a Microchip company, we manufacture electronic goods and ship them around the world. We won't exactly have any uses for 'flaming swords'." You can tell from her tone that she has shifted from a hostile, condescending tone, to a more professional tone.
Avatar
Davey Bones 19-Nov-21 09:06 PM
Davey shrugs. "I believe that ye be thinking somewhat too small." He says. "Magic can serve a great many functions. While ye are not wrong about such things such as 'flaming swords,' there be much more useful things. I'd list off the potential uses, but we'd be here all year and a day if I did. For now, let's suffice to say that things such as technomancy, the magic of control machinery, is very much a thing." Davey downs another drink. "Regardless, I do not see a reason why ye would limit ye self to such a finite market. I be here, telling ye that magic is very real and very exploitable, and ye are telling me that ye don't see possibilities beyond microchips? I be suggesting a business angle that will make ye bosses look like peasants next to you over the course of a year or so. If I could do it myself, I would, but I lack the industrious know-how. Ye, on the other hand? Ye strike me as someone who knows how to run a business, ambitious enough to take an opportunity when it presents itself, and to make the most of it." Davey tilts his head a little. "Or did I misjudge ye?"
Avatar
Cindurion 19-Nov-21 09:24 PM
"I see." She puts her index finger up to her chin, clearly processing all this. "I do apologize, I seem to have misjudged you. I expected you to be a brutish man looking for a quick buck, so I only thought you took me aside due to my position within the company, not because of my skillset. For that I apologize. I would say that it's not a mistake I would do again, but I suspect that there is a lot about you I do not know and may misjudge, so that's not a promise I'm willing to make." She picks up the glass and takes another sip, this time keeping it in her hands "Very well. I can absolutely see the usefulness of magical items introduced on the mass-market. If I can gain the patent on a lot of these items... Forget about making Billions, we could basically conquer the world if we time it right! I'm assuming the Magus Organization is what has kept it from being public information, or is there something else to it? It seems like a very large secret to keep." (You would know that magic has that slight amnesiac effect on "normals", which has helped a lot, and the Organization has mostly swept things under the rug and let the amnesia and worry about seeming crazy do most of the work.)
Avatar
Davey Bones 19-Nov-21 09:29 PM
Davey makes an annoyed sound, as he says, "It be a little bit more to it than just that, though they are certainly a large part of the reason. Ye non-magical people have a slight inclination to forget about magic events, assuming the experience is not too drawn out or severe. The Magus Organization are the people who make sure it stays forgotten, however. With them gone, there would be opportunities one could exploit."
Avatar
Cindurion 19-Nov-21 09:46 PM
"I see. That's good. That means that any competitors we might have would be too scared to act until it's too late. If we set things up in advance we should be able to launch this project and take over the market before anyone has a chance to react. We would, however, need someone who can actually make these things. You going on a 'Raid', as you called it, would only bring in occasional revenue streams, but having someone to actually create new objects and then monopolizing it! that's where the money will be at! Of course, I'll be expecting a 60/40 cut given that I would be the one managing the business after you've helped me set things up." (You can faintly tell that there are signs of worry on her, but her posture and gaze are solid as steel)
Avatar
Davey Bones 19-Nov-21 10:01 PM
Davey smiles grimly. "I be the one who will be spilling blood and claiming the wish for this. It be me and me crew that will be taking the real risks. I will be taking the 60/40 profits."

Lillian considers this for a moment, while seemingly 'crunching the numbers'. Finally she responds: "Fine. There are still a few more things you need to clue me in on, but that can wait until later. Do we have a deal, then?" She says, while raising her glass at you (edited)

Davey Bones 19-Nov-21 10:26 PM
Davey raises his glass as well, and says, "Aye, I believe we do." As he downs his drink, he says, "But let's make something clear. Work with me on this, and I will make ye richer than ye ever dreamed of becoming." He puts down his glass, and stands up from his chair. "But if ye betray me or go behind me back in any way, well... I'm sure ye get the idea." He walks by her, pats her on the back, and says, "I'll return ye to the docks where ye can return to ye dwelling. I believe we have a phone aboard, Cooper will provide ye the number, as well as accept ye number. We will be in touch." And so, Davey leaves the captain's quarters, preparing to meet with Ms. Porter.

Cindurion 19-Nov-21 10:33 PM
As he walks towards her, she responds with: "Naturally. And you need to understand that I'm only going along with this because you have so far shown that you are capable of professional courtesy. Should you turn out to be nothing more than the rabid dog I thought you were, I will cease all communication with you. However, I hope it doesn't come to that and that we will have a profitable relationship going forward."

Davey Bones 19-Nov-21 10:37 PM
Davey once more laughs heartily, saying as he leaves, "I am certainly feral when the situation calls for it, but I would not be here if I be nothing but an animal. Ye will have nothing to worry in that regard, I am sure. Have a good evening, Ms. Whitford."
Avatar
Cindurion 19-Nov-21 11:02 PM
"And you as well" She responds. After the captain leaves she takes a short breath before heading out, and demands the phone number from Cooper and that she should be dropped off at the docks. *As you move over to the sailors, you can hear how they are speaking in low, hushed tones. You can hear how Nellie seems to be keeping morale up and that they should do what is asked of them, but that she'll get them out of this situation somehow. As they notice your approach she asks the others to support her, and the two sailors without injuries picks her up from the floor and stands her up with her arms around their shoulders.

As Davey speaks he watches each of the sailors carefully, weighing their facial expressions to see what emotions might be flashing by their faces as he speaks. (edited)

After a moment, almost as if it took some great effort, Davey was able to turn his gaze back to Nellie, and says, "Of course it matters. Once dreams always matters, especially when faced with someone who offers ye the opportunity to fulfil it." As he says this, he turns fully to face Nellie and her crew, and says, "I be entering a war with people like me, here in this city. It be important to me that I win. If ye and ye crew aid me in this endeavour, and set sail with me on this venture, I will provide ye the means to make ye dreams come true." As he says this, he pulls out a number of red-tinted gold coins, and says, "I be offering each of ye enough gold to buy a ship for ye own, to travel the world. Or at the very least enough gold to allow each of ye to live a luxuries life that will have ye peers downright envious of ye. Sail with me, and I will do this for ye. If not, ye may leave assuming you promise to keep ye experience on board this ship to yeselves." Davey looks fully at Nellie, and says, "What do ye say, Ms. Porter?" Davey gives her an acknowledging nod. "Pleasure to make ye acquaintance, Ms. Zhukov. Ye be brave to speak out against me, I give ye that. Ye do make some valid points that ye friends would be wise to heed. Aye, I be a skeleton, that be rather abnormal. Aye, I did mention a war, though truth be told it only pertains to somewhere around 5-10 people. But nay, I don't be a pirate." Davey grin somehow seems to widen, as he says, "I be the pirate. So aye, all in all ye be having good reason to decline me offer. However, before ye make ye decision, know this: I may be the greatest pirate to ever sail this earth, but I be far from the worst thing this world has to offer. My way is simple; I see something I want, I take it. That doesn't mean that I cause needless harm to get it. The other contestants however?" Davey shrugs. "They are just as likely to be more monstrous than even I as not. I cannot speak to what harm they seek upon people beyond this war. Now," Davey leans forward somewhat, until he is on a closer eye-level to Josie. "I be very honest about me wants. And I do not ask for ye labour for free. Ye may leave if ye wish. But consider that I may be the only line of defence ye harbour may have against the other mages fighting this war. And while I am likely to leave once I win this war, I cannot make the same promise to any other mage who may win. More than payment however, I be offering ye a way to make a difference. If that doesn't matter to ye, then be me guest and leave, but if not, know that when ye see the news in a few days and see a list of casualties that ye knew ye might have prevented, know that ye had a chance to possibly stop it." With that, Davey stands back up to his full height, awaiting her response. (edited)

As you speak you well and truly emphasize how you are The pirate with a sinister look, and you can see how the sailors recoil a little. After your speech, the sailors share a look between each other, and Nellie sighs. "If you offer is genuine, we'd like to be let off the ship, Captain." (edited)

Davey eyes Nellie for a long moment, his thoughts turning to dark places for a moment. Then he nods, and says, "As ye wish, Ms. Porter. I be nothing if not a pirate of me word." And after that, Davey went over to Ward, and said, "Mr. Ward, return us to the docks." He glances back over to the sailors. "I want these people off me ship,"

As the ship stops at the docks and the boarding plank is placed, Nellie shares a look with one of the sailors, who nods. The sailors get off, one after another, with Josie taking the lead, followed by three of the other sailors, leaving only Nellie and the sailor she shared a look with. Josie turns to look at Nellie expectantly, who instead of getting onto the boarding plank, turns to you. "Now that all of the crew who have no interest in this are off the ship, is that offer still on the table, Captain, or did we burn our lot?" "Nellie..?" Josie responds with a quizzical look. "What are you..?" Nellie looks at you with a serious expression.

Davey tilts his head somewhat, and says, "Aye, the offer still be on the table."

"Very well. Then me and Mr. Grant here would like to stay." She says as she nods at Grant and they both pull up the boarding plank to the docks. "What? Nellie, Joel? What's this about? You... You can't be serious?" Josie asks pleadingly. "I'm sorry, Josie, I have my reasons. Tell Captain Edwards we won't be on the payroll anymore. He can stuff last month's paycheck..." But Nellie doesn't finish the statement, instead again turning to you, and salutes. "What now, Captain?"

Without sparing as much as a glance at Josie, Davey looked at Nellie and Joel, and said, "For now we will prepare for the conflict to come. I will have Mr. Cooper, me first mate, show ye the work stations around the ship." As he speaks, The Immortal Tyrant will start to drift away from the dock where we left Josie and the other sailors behind, and after they make a good enough distance, Davey will say, "But before we do that, Ms. Porter, mind if I ask ye, what be ye reason for joining me crew?"

"Aye, aye, Captain!" Nellie and Joel respond as Josie pleadingly asks them to reconsider, before falling on her knees with a defeated look at the docks. At your question, Nellie responds: "Like I mentioned, my dream is to sail the seas and see the world. If I can do so with a ship of my own, without having to take orders from anyone, then all the better. It wouldn't even have to be a large ship. And truth to be told, I was getting sick of cruising around Maineral, living from paycheck to paycheck. If I can do one big job and break free, I'm more than willing to do so, even if there's risk involved. As for Joël, here, he's not much of a talker, but he's of a similar mind as me." Joël nods at this.

Davey looks between Nellie and Joel, and nods in acceptance. Then, extending his hand in the offer of a handshake, he says, "Well, Ms. Porter, Mr. Grant, welcome aboard The Immortal Tyrant."

"Thank you, Captain!" Nellie responds, shaking his hand with not a sign of unease at shaking a skeleton's hand. Joël is a bit more wary but not enough to be noticably so.

(That's that, I suppose. They will get the tour from Cooper, the ground rules will be laid down, and I will spend the rest of the night just laying low.)
(That said, gonna double check with the Tyrant to see if there is anything I want her to do.)
Alright, I've decided. The Immortal Tyrant will undergo the age old tradition of VITALITY TRAINING WOOP WOOP!

We're pirates, and we have Shirley onboard.
Anyway, I rolled an 11. How many IPs was that again?

I mean, that doesn't magically produce alcohol enough to get a ship drunk :P I'll allow it this time, but you may need to come up with a better way of training Vit for future actions, or you might have to go for shopping runs :P (Mind you, the money isn't the issue, it's just the logistics of acquiring it requiring actions)
2 IPs
