Due to exceptional roleplaying you have been awarded 1 character creation point! Make sure to note it down yourself! Keep it up! But only if you feel like it. Remember that mini-scenes are always optional! Day 2, daytime After recruiting Lillian and the two sailors and leaving the others at the docks, you decide to give The Immortal Tyrant a treat and have Shirley share some of his booze, to its delight. Who knew a ship could have such a love for alcohol! In the morning you are approached by Isaac. Who approaches you somewhat nervously. "Ahoy there! I couldn't help but notice that we seem to have become a few men, and women, shorter on this ship during the night! Not to mention a few of these fine people seem to have gotten some rather lucrative job offers!" "Now, I certainly don't mind getting to spend the night on such a luxurious ship for free, heck, I know a couple of people who would pay good money for something like this. I just want to make sure that the rest of us aren't forgotten in the midst of all of your important preparations." (edited)
"Like I mentioned before, I have all manner of contacts that could be useful for someone like you, but should you decide that you presently have no need for my services, I could always leave my calling card, and you could get in touch when the need arises? As for the two lovebirds over there, I've got a feeling that they might not be the most useful for your current endeavours, and as for the archeologist, I got the impression that you didn't much care for him. After all, why should you, when he has devoted his life to uncover something you still have vivid memories of doing, I'm sure! If that's the case, perhaps it would be best to just consider it a win that you got the new additions to your crew, and call it there? No need to make a spectacle or anything, am I right?" Feel free to answer this and turn it into a mini-scene. Doing so won't take up an action unless you decide to talk to all remaining hostages in private. Otherwise it is enough to simply decide what to do with the remaining hostages and tell me the summary. Afterwards, what do you do for your day-time phase? (edited)

Cindurion 24-Nov-21 08:19 AM
(This is just a reminder that your day-time action needs to be reported today before 21 to be valid!)
Avatar
Davey Bones 24-Nov-21 04:52 PM
Gonna skip the roleplaying for now, methinks. Here is what I'd do: I'd try to negotiate with the couple to see if I could persuade them to go on scouting runs for me (maybe for a bit of payment, hint-hint). I'd talk to the Jackal about him being my middle hand for some dealings. Aside from that, I was hoping to set up a second teleportation trap in my treasury.

Cindurion 24-Nov-21 05:36 PM
What of the Archeologist?
Avatar
Cindurion 24-Nov-21 05:43 PM
If you wish to acquire all of their services you wouldn't be able to finish an additional trap. But I will remind you that the first one you made is 100% done.
Avatar
Davey Bones 24-Nov-21 05:44 PM
If I ignore the Archeologist, can I finish it?
Avatar
Cindurion 24-Nov-21 05:48 PM
No, generally acquiring someone's services takes an action, so this is more me wanting to have you deal with your hostages
Avatar
Davey Bones 24-Nov-21 05:49 PM
Hmm... Can I get all of them if I spend my action on it?
Avatar
Cindurion 24-Nov-21 05:49 PM
You could let them go for free, but talking to all of them would be your action
Avatar
Davey Bones 24-Nov-21 05:52 PM
Well, I'll be talking to them in that case, and I will be asking the archeologist about if he knows anything worth noting about Atlantis. Depending on what he tells me I might change my mind about what to do with him.

But he doesn't need to know that.

Cindurion 24-Nov-21 07:04 PM

Yeah, they're good.
Though, if I hear about them going around talking about me, I'mma have to track 'em down kill 'em. I'm sure they understand.
(That's something I would only clarify once they decline though. Wouldn't help me sell my pitch ahead of time.)
Avatar
Cindurion 24-Nov-21 07:07 PM
Fair enough, you'll get a summary at the end of the phase in that case!
Anything else you do?
Avatar
Davey Bones 24-Nov-21 07:09 PM
I have Shirley and Ward set up a table at the harbor, along with the comfiest chairs we can get our hands on. Hmm... Considering how much we gave the Tyrant yesterday, I would probably ask one of the humans on my team to go and purchase some alcohol while I work? I kinda wanna be able to offer stuff to my guests. Cindurion 24-Nov-21 11:10 PM
You talk with The Jackal, and upon mentioning that you will let him go if he wants he immediately takes you up on that deal and is fairly insistent on getting the ship to the docks so he can get off You have far more progress with the couple, but the boy asks to receive payment up-front, to his girlfriend’s dismay. If you accept they are now part of your crew As for the archeologist, aside from stroking your ego and maybe asking interesting questions about Atlantis, he isn’t really able to tell you anything you don’t know (at least to my knowledge, unless you want to know anything specific. He clearly knows his atlantis history), so you’ll have to decide what to do with him I suppose. Your crew gets chairs and booze for the meeting. What do you do for your night-time phase?
Avatar
Davey Bones 25-Nov-21 10:14 AM
(Very tempted to blow off anyone who shows up, ngl).
Davey will walk off the ship and onto the docks, and will tell The Immortal Tyrant to keep as much distance between it and the harbour as long as it keeps me and the table within its firing range. Just in case something goes awry, I will ask the majority of my human passengers to remain in the more shielded part of The Immortal Tyrant. In case she would insist, I would give Vera a spyglass so she could watch the meeting, in case she wants more inspiration for her art. In exchange, if things go poorly, she is to keep her head down. As our nightly actions, both Davey and The Immortal Tyrant will take the scout option at the harbour they are in.
In case it wasn't obvious, I am hanging out at the table.

Cindurion 25-Nov-21 01:06 PM
(I see... What about the couple, were they given an advance pay? In addition, what do you do with the archeologist?)
Avatar
Davey Bones 25-Nov-21 01:07 PM
(The couple are getting payed in advance, yes, and the archeologist can choose to stay or go as he please; I don't really have any immediate use for him, if any.)

As you patiently wait, you suddenly sense a magical signal approach the area. You look around but cannot see anything. Some time later, a bird appears and lands on one of the chairs. To your surprise, it looks a lot like Scurvy. So much so that you initially think it is Scurvy, but once you get a proper look at it, you notice some distinct differences. It is clearly undead though, and of the same type of bird as Scurvy. It looks at you expectantly.
Avatar
Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 06:44 PM
Davey tilts his head a little bit, wondering if this is some trick or some sort of ill omen. Then, he shrugs his shoulders, and says "Greetings, feathered one. Would ye be interested in some rum?" Davey offers a glass of, you guessed it, rum to the bird. "I once knew a bird much like ye who had the appetite for it." (edited)
As he speaks, he pours the bird a glass and slides it over to it for it to do what it will with it.

(It isn't something it's doing, you get the impression that Illusion magic is involved, but more akin to something cast on the bird. It's not casting something right now if that's what you mean?)
(Like, you think there's an illusion type effect already cast on the bird)

"Ello!" says the macaw as he sips a bit of the rum. "Are you a family person, are these, your family? I have a family." While nodding at your skeleton crew.
Avatar
Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 07:19 PM
Davey's grin seems to unnaturally widen somewhat, as he says, "Ye be a interesting bird, I'll give ye that. Tell ye what, I'll answer ye question if ye answer one of mine; What are ye, really? Ye are obviously not an actual bird, certainly not Scurvy; Not enough insults."
Avatar
Cindurion 26-Nov-21 07:28 PM
"Well... I am what you are, although I don't yet know if we have the same goal but this one is called Boromir. And even if you are a pirate I'd rather y'all not insult Boromir, he is family now."
The macaw crosses its legs like a human and tilts its head to try and see more closely how Davey reacts
Avatar
Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 07:33 PM
"I see," Davey says, readjusting himself a bit in his seat to get a bit more comfortable. Then, glancing over at the Skeleton Crew, he says, laughing, "Well, I be not one to judge, I suppose. But to answer ye question, I suppose that be a subject of debate. Those men be my brothers, aye, and we share some love between us. But does that make us family?" Davey shrugs again. "I tend not to worry about these sorts of things. They be important to me, as I be important to they, so if that make us family, then sure."
Avatar
Cindurion 26-Nov-21 07:46 PM
The Bird flies and sits on top of Davey's hat (Assuming he lets it) "I like this answer. I don't think I want to fight you right now. If you don't mind Boromir can visit you and your family every now and then, maybe it can be useful to us both"

Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 07:54 PM
Fair. In that case, I'd also send this: As the narrator misunderstood the context of a message, Davey will instead say, "There be another mage approaching. Will ye be joining us, Mr....?"

Cindurion 26-Nov-21 07:55 PM
"If you're friendly you can call me Blake, Mr. clever pirate. Have you seen the mice traveling trough the city? They are not family."
"Well some mice are but not the swarming ones..."
Avatar
Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 07:57 PM
"Aye, I've noticed them. Did ye notice that they seem to be in the company of seagulls?" As Davey says this, I would like to make a Perception check to see if I can see anyone.
Avatar
Cindurion 26-Nov-21 07:59 PM
(Generally you don't need to make Perception checks. Feel free to ask in case I forgot or missed, but you will never know that there was a perception check or not, as it's considered hidden, passive information)
"I will stay around" Boromir whispers. The bird will stick around but try to act more bird-like
Avatar
Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 08:01 PM
"This be fine." Davey says, though if he is speaking to Mr. Blake, Boromir, or himself, it seems a little unclear.

Cindurion 26-Nov-21 08:03 PM

"Ye make a good point, but I've had colonies of them watch me ship recently, along with some rats. I be unsure at the time whether they be related or not."
Davey's eyes gaze around the general area, and in a low voice so only Boromir can hear, he says, "There be a mage in the area, but they refuse to show themselves. I don't suppose ye have seen them?"
Avatar
Cindurion 26-Nov-21 08:13 PM
"Not related I think, But seagulls are good. If someone is here right now I cant tell where..." Boromir whispers back.
"Your song seems good for making people drawn to you though, don't know if that is the best move if the mage is friendly though."

Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 08:23 PM
Davey hums thoughtfully, considering his options. Then, eventually, he says, “I say that we let things play out for the time being. There be no rush to draw them out, and the night still be young.” As he says this, Davey leans back into his seat and, almost as if bored, starts flipping a red-tinted gold coin.
Avatar
Cindurion 26-Nov-21 08:34 PM
"Then we wait. That's a unique coin you got there, why is it so red?" The bird says as it lays down and rests on top of Davey's hat
Avatar
Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 08:42 PM
Still flipping the coin, Davey says in a grave casual voice, “I be a pirate, Mr. Blake. Most of what I own I got through either theft or as the result of it. And some things, well…” Davey stares at the coin for a moment, before he started flipping it again. “Some things don’t wash off so simply.”
(Btw, that was supposed to say “casual voice” not grave)

The bird seems quite comfortable in your hat. It doesn't reply, instead seemingly waiting.

Cindurion 26-Nov-21 09:10 PM
An older-looking hooded man approaches you from an alleyway. "Greetings, esteemed Captain! I am known as the Broker, and I come to you representing a client of mine. This client who approached me is a participant in these so-called "Mage Wars" of yours, and has asked me to... Strike a deal with you, on his behalf. Something about avoiding potential ambushes, I believe. Regardless, this individual is quite interested in obtaining a very rare item, a Soul Gem (You would know that it could be used to create a Phylactery), and seems convinced that you may be able to procure some for him. In return, my client wishes you to know that he is an individual with a significant influence within the Magus Organization and would be able to persuade them to ignore whatever conventional rules of the War you might happen to accidentally overstep, shall we say? Alternatively, I have been given authority to negotiate alternative ways of payment for such a favor, if there is anything else you would much prefer. So, how about it, Captain? Shall we parlay?"
Avatar
Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 09:23 PM
Davey stops flipping the coin, letting it land in his hand, as he stared at the broker. Then, after a prolonged stretch of silence, he says, “Ye client wishes to become a lich,” he says flatly.
Avatar
Cindurion 26-Nov-21 09:27 PM
"My clients intentions are of no interest to me, Captain. I've merely made a deal to acquire a Soul Gem for him, what he does with it is of no concern to me."

Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 09:38 PM
Any implied smile that Davey had is completely gone now. “Ye client is a mage,” Davey says, as he begins to stand. “He have connections within the Magus Organization,” he continues, as he began approaching the Broker. “And he wishes to become a lich,” Davey stops walking when he is either face to face with the Broker, or at least as close as the Broker would allow. “Either ye be lying to me, or ye be working for Count Rosendo.” Davey let’s out a low chuckle. “Rich snobs seldom gets their hands dirty.” (Davey will be reading the Broker’s expression very carefully.)
(I wanna remind you I get a +2 bonus if he is rich ^^)

Cindurion 26-Nov-21 09:48 PM
The Broker meets Davey's gaze with steady eyes and a slight smile. "While I'm not technically at liberty to discuss my client's true identity, what I can tell you is that a contract has already been outlined and contains the signature of my client. A contract which, should you decide to sign it, you will receive a copy of. Should you wish to infer their identity from such a scrawl, who am I to stop you?" (edited)

Davey chuckles a little, though it is a noise devoid of any true joy. "I believe that ye employer has misunderstood something about me. I don't fear the Magus Organization. The point of this," Davey gestures to the table. "Is not because I fear them. I am sickened by them. If I was afraid, I would never have become a pirate in the first place." Davey shakes his head, almost as if in disappointment. "I don't want their protection. I want to see them squirm. To remind them that they have no power over me." Davey gives the Broker what might have been a smile, if his mannerisms are any indicator. "Clearly, I was right to remind them." Davey turns his back on the Broker, and starts to make his way back to the table. "Since I invited ye, I will permit ye to leave. But understand this: While I respect what ye do, seeing as ye represent a enemy of mine, ye are not welcome on these shores, and if ye aren't gone by the time I have reached me chair, I will have The Immortal Tyrant open fire on ye." As he says this, Davey makes his way over to the table again, not really caring to give the Broker a fair head start or anything. I hope he runs fast.

Cindurion 26-Nov-21 10:26 PM
(The following message is not something you as Davey notice, so I just want to know the reaction from the Immortal Tyrant): All of a sudden you feel something akin to an itch. Not particularly uncommon. Plenty of things float in the waters and bump into the hull. But then you feel another, and another, and you feel titter-tattering trying to crawl up on your hull, entering your mouth and beginning to crawl up into all your orifices How does the Immortal Tyrant react?
Avatar
Davey Bones 26-Nov-21 10:27 PM
(Oh, fuck.)
The Immortal Tyrant is going to give out a mournful moan akin to that of a whale, and it is going to go airborne, and as it does so, it is going to use it's mimic powers to create walls in the orifices that these things are crawling into and shove them back out.
Avatar
Cindurion 26-Nov-21 10:30 PM
The Broker slinks calmly back into the shadows with but a few parting words. "While this particular client will be saddened by your decision, keep in mind, Captain, that I represent a multitude of different clients and owe allegiance to none of them. Whatever quarrel you have with the Magus Organization or the Count, I really don't care. However, should you ever desire my services, you know where to find me."

(Still gonna let Boromir leave, of course.)
Avatar
Cindurion 27-Nov-21 03:22 PM
You let Boromir fly off to chase the rats, and once you are sure it's out of range of your paralyzing effect, you let out a paralyzing schreech. You hear several thuds from below deck, presumably from your human passengers. Some time afterwards, the Tyrant would make another whale-like noise, signalling that there are no more intruders on board.
Avatar
Davey Bones 27-Nov-21 03:24 PM
Davey ends the effect of his screech, and commands The Tyrant to make sure that we aren't missing anything important. After that, he goes to check on his human passengers.

Cindurion 27-Nov-21 03:38 PM
After some time it gives off another noise, signalling that everything is okay. The passengers are a bit shaken but otherwise they are fine.

Davey Bones 27-Nov-21 04:29 PM
After verifying that his ship was in order, Davey will sigh, and return back to his seat at the harbour. The Immortal Tyrant however, would remain airborne. He did not need two cowardly attacks in one night.

(I would like to see if I could extract some memories from it. Specifically from the last 10 or so minutes, if nothing else. I would like to verify Mr. Blake's story, or possibly even learn who is commanding it.)
(Just saying, it would make a lot of sense for Davey to be able to do this, seeing as some men are probably somewhat unwilling to tell me where their treasures are before I kill them.)

You successfully snatch its soul, but are disappointed to realize that it doesn't seem to possess any short term memories, as strange as that seems.
