You've been awarded 3 CCPs for winning a battle! Make sure to note it down! Daytime Phase day 9. Your Servant returns from its assignment. It may have been unharmed, but it was also unsuccessful. But perhaps the runes you noted down or the journal will prove useful… the book itself has no name but it's hidden behind a fake bible cover so as to not arouse suspicion. *Pages 1-7 starts by describing meeting "God" and being granted the powers and commands from him. These notes also have scribbles and meanings that goes nowhere, like a man being half insane while describing this meeting with God. It then goes on into detail about God's influence, the symbols of power and totems, even how far sacrifices would have to go, for the greater good and all. It then details the ritual to create the portals, and something called a “Summoning”, an event that would bring God into this world, whatever that means… Pages 8-10 starts with a curiously detailed picture of the Servant you fought, although the description that follows does not match the picture as it speaks of it being an angel and detailing its angelic aspects and beauty. The pages that follows has the same curiously detailed pictures of other monsters from the portal and even the hellscape that exists on the other side of the portal, and once more, the descriptions are more in angelic, cherubic and similar good, happy and beautiful context as with the angel before.*

The last few pages with anything written have details about the Decay aspect and how its powers should be used to punish those that would challenge God, and to be used as punishment for those that strays from the path, even detailing the totem and it's terrifying effect should they remain unchallenged for too long. As you wake the next morning, you notice silence within the swarm. The rat swarm you’ve quarantined is now dead, only a handful remain. What is worse is that the rest of your swarms exhibit the same signs you saw two days earlier. It appears they had already been infected by the time you quarantined the sick swarm. (You have lost one rat swarm. All other swarms have a -1 Mod to all tasks.) What do you, your servant and your swarms do for your daytime phase?

(Also, I guess I'll have little reason to do anything but start removing some disease from my swarms... I'll start with my Pigeons, they are the most enhanced, and would cost the most to loose. I can only hope I managed to somehow spread the disease to that rude rifle-man.)

(Could I learn anything more from studying the book? Cause if not I'd probably best just bring it to the count.)

(That's fair! While removing disease is definitely in your skill pool, so much so that it would be an easy check, you are a bit hampered by the fact that you're having to cast it over and over on multiple creatures, so they sorta cancel out. The DC would probably be 9+, removing disease from an additional swarm on each DC above that)

(Was mostly wondering if I could glean any magic knowledge that I might be able to use, so I guess I'd wanna check the last few pages a bit closer?)

(If I don't get the impression I could learn anything more, I might just head on over to Mr. Count with it, and a copy of the copy of the runes.)

(Hmm, you get the impression that you could study this book further to possibly learn Decay magic yourself, but that might take time. In addition, you get the impression that you could make a deal with "God" and subsequently learn other power if you so wish.)

(Depends on your roll, but would likely take days, and generally speaking that would give you a basic understanding, you'd then have to spend CCPs/IPs to upgrade it.)

Your Servant is let in and is once again escorted to the Count. "I never received word from the man I sent you with. I take it things didn't go too well?", the Count says as he looks your Servant over, almost like he's inspecting for injuries.

"We were not. He would have been useful for that at least, had he not stumbled upon the threshold. There was a rift in the catacomb from whence the creatures spewed. Had he still been alive his mana could have been used to close it, we think."

"What a pity." He says as he waves over his butler. "Make sure his family is appropriately dealt with." To which the butler nods and leaves. "I see, so a rift is what is causing all this then? I should be able to find someone to deal with it. Did you find anything else?"

"We found two things. There was a large stone tablet of sorts, with runes inscribed. Here is our best attempt at copying the runes. We also found this book. It seems to detail most things concerning this mage's fall to madness."

I hand over both the copy of the runes and the book.

"Hmm, interesting... I have no idea what these runes mean, which is pretty rare. This could certainly be useful..." He says as he flips open the book and disinterestedly skims through it, before continuing. "Which is good, since I was worried you would be here with nothing to show for it except a dead operative." As he says this he closes the book with a thump. "I will look into the rift and these runes. If something comes up I will stay in touch. Where should I contact you, if you are at all interested in fixing this mess?"

The Count sighs, pulls out the top drawer of his desk and searches it for a bit. He closes it and opens the second drawer and reaches inside. He pulls out a phone and slides it across the desk. "I take it you understand how one of these work?"

"We have found out that we are not immune to the plague ourselves, but we might be able to do something about that."

"That." He says, pausing for a moment, looking down at his desk as he taps it with a pen. "Depends on the results." He says as he looks up right at your servant. "You were paid up-front for this job with a priceless magical artifact that you are no doubt currently using to win this war. And yet, all I have to show for it is a dead operative and your word that you were not in on it and that you are helping me here." He twirls his pen for a moment before continuing. "If it turns out that you are capable of bringing useful results, you will keep being rewarded with items such as the crown that you received earlier. I can even take requests if you are looking for something in particular. But if this turns out to be nothing more than fancy toilet paper." He says as he lifts up the journal and slams it at the desk. "And if you were in fact involved with the death of my operative, perhaps even working with the Mage at the church... Well, let's just say that you wouldn't be winning this year's war..."

(How are you going to charge it? :P) You are able to purify the swarm of pigeons, but it takes quite a bit out of you, so you are only able to purify the one swarm. What do you, your servant and your swarms do for your nighttime phase?
