Character Info

Davey Bones is probably the strongest combatant in all of Mage Wars, commanding a literal skeleton crew and a unique Servant that also serves as his Base, the ghost ship, “The Immortal Tyrant”.

The Immortal Tyrant

Davey has a wide variety of perks and boons, the most notable being that he has a phylactery that will prevent him from fully dying, as his spirit will return to the phylactery instead of the afterlife should he be killed. Once back in the phylactery his body will regenerate after some days and he will return. The downside is that should the phylactery be destroyed, he will instantly die as it is the anchor for his soul.

Davey wield the powers of a “Pirate King”, a combination of necromancy and aquamancy with a unique pirate-y flavor. He also has a vast fortune of cursed gold coins that he can use to entice anyone. He can at all times feel where the coins are and he has a unique trait that allows him to get bonuses against “Rich” characters, meaning he could give away his fortune, only to then steal it back from them in a fight.

So how come Davey is so much more powerful and versatile compared to the other players? For one, he has a terrifying negative trait that means he is extremely wanted by the Magus Organization, essentially this game’s police force. They will periodically be sending in powerful hit-squads to deal with Davey, and they have access to all his weaknesses, such as his phylactery, his weakness to holy magic, etc. This essentially means that Davey is on the clock, and in addition to this, Davey has to announce himself to all the other players while also having the “Famous” keyword, so he has his work cut out for him!

What follows is the backstory that the player controlling Davey Bones wrote:

Davey Bones, Blackbeard, Pirate King, the Scourge of the Seven Seas, Enemy of the Church, Master of evil, devourer of souls, the Sworn Foe of Atlantis, he has been called all these things and more. But these days in mage’s society, he is most prominently known as Pirate King, Davey “Lichbeard” Bones, Captain of The Immortal Tyrant and the last true pirate of old.

You see, no one knows exactly where he came from. Some say that he was an ambitious pirate who started from the bottom, eventually making a name for himself as he became more and more renowned and powerful with the usage of dark magic. Some say that he was a man who swore vengeance on God himself for some great betrayal, leading him to commit every heinous act of sin possible as payback. Others even go so far to say that he is a soul so wicked, so evil, that even Hell refused to accept him, leaving him to roam the world of the living as a malicious and greedy spirit of evil.

Whatever the case, while his precise origins may be shrouded in mystery and legends, the tales of his deeds as a pirate are plentiful, well known, and well documented in mage society. He is an undead Lich of terrible power, possessing abilities that allow him to return from death, enslave the souls of those he slain and commune with others, raise the dead, control the sea in unnatural and dark ways, and powers of a similar nature too terrible to speak of. Worse yet, his beloved flagship, The Immortal Tyrant is, much like its master, an undying and unnatural abomination possessing a sadistic mind. It is said that this ship is not only magical, but alive, and unwaveringly loyal to its captain. It is manned by a crew of ghosts and skeletons, to be armed with profane cannons that fire cannonballs imbued with dark spells, and to even possess the power to sail through the night sky as if it was the very ocean.

With these dark powers at his command, Davey Bones has wreaked havoc across the seas and coastlines for many centuries. He has stolen great treasures from commoners and royals alike, defeated countless Pirate Lords and Navy Admirals, slewn Krakens as readily as any sea monster, and is even said to have sunk Atlantis itself in an act of rage after failing to conquer it as his own.

It is even said that he has once participated in a previous Mage War of old, but was defeated when another competing mage was able to make their way into the heart of The Immortal Tyrant, and steal Davey Bones’ Phylactery; the source of his immortality. Rather than putting an end to the age old evil, the mage permitted the old Lich to live. But in return, Davey Bones was forced to not only forfeit victory in the Mage War, but was also forced to aid the Mage in defeating the remaining participants.

Davey Bones agreed to this and swore by the Pirate Code, an oath not to be taken lightly, for it is said that he never breaks such a promise. As such, the Mage who stole his phylactery knew they were safe to return it to its owner, knowing that Davey Bones would keep his word.

Unfortunately for the Mage, while they did win the war and were granted their wish, the Captain had not forgiven the Mage. Years after the war had ended, the pirate king had returned and murdered the Mage, feeding their soul to The Immortal Tyrant to enact his vengeance to its fullest extent.
Now, he has returned to once again participate in the Mage’s War, determined to succeed where he once failed, and claim the only treasure aside from Atlantis to have escaped his avaricious grasp; the promise of a Wish.
